preparation & etiquette

At The Treatment Works we want you to relax and enjoy your visit. We aim to maintain an informal but professional atmosphere at all times and here are some points to consider before your visit.

On your first visit you will be asked to give some personal details as we perform a consultation for all clients. The length of this will vary depending on the treatment that is being performed. It is likely that a medical history will be taken especially for the more advanced or invasive body and facial treatments. This is because some aspects of the treatments or some of the products or procedures used may have an adverse effect on some medical conditions such as heart conditions, high/low blood pressure, diabetes, epilepsy or cancer and effect medication. If you think this is a possibility please book a separate complimentary 15 consultation before any treatment you are considering. This will give us time to consider whether the treatment is suitable for you and it may mean that the treatment may have to be adapted or we may have to contact your GP or specialist for their consent. If you are in any doubt please contact us by dropping into the Salon, by phone or by email and we will be happy to discuss it with you.

If you are pregnant most treatments at The Treatment Works are perfectly safe ( if the pregnancy is proceeding normally) and most can be adapted if required so please mention on booking. There are some treatments however that are not recommended in the first 3 months so if you are in this period or planning a pregnancy please book a separate consultation so we can discuss the options available. A large number of our face and body treatments and one of our main ranges of skincare use Environ products which have highly active levels of Vitamins A & C. There has been publicity recently linking Vitamin A to birth abnormalities and although these products use a different form of Vitamin A which research indicates is not a risk, as a precaution Environ have been advised not to recommend these products for use in pregnancy. We do have other ranges and treatments we can recommend as an alternative.

If you are having a spray tan treatment please wear loose dark clothing and flip flops or loose fitting shoes such as sandals. Do not :-

  • Use any other self tanning products one week before application
  • Wax or shave less than 24 hours before treatment.
  • Do not have IPL 24 hours before and at least 1 week after as it can causing blistering & irritation.
  • Wear any make up, deodorant, perfume, body oils or lotions as these may react with the tanning agents.

On the day of your treatment please exfoliate your skin paying particular to dry areas such as knees and elbows.

You can be sprayed in your underwear, choose to remove it or we have disposable paper underwear. If you choose to wear your own underwear during the spray please be aware this will also be coloured and we cannot be held responsible for any staining that may occur.

A patch test must be carried out at least 24 hours before any eyelash or brow tinting and also if you have ever had any reaction to any spray tanning or hair colouring agent.

Contact lenses must be removed before any facial treatments involving the eye area.

For male facial treatments please ensure you are clean shaven around permanent facial hair.

For Nail Enhancements we cannot take responsibility for any loss or breakage more than 24 hours from application.

Most of our treatments are suitable for both men and women and both are very welcome at The Treatment Works.

If you are considering Collagen Stimulation Therapy please note that the needling of the skin allows active vitamins direct access to the lower levels of the skin giving it 10,000 times more penetration than to non needled skin. These products contain high levels of very active vitamins and the skin has to have built up tolerance to these so we require that you use AVST or C Quence a minimum of 1 month before the treatment.

Most of our treatments and products are suitable for children aged 16 or over. For children aged 10-15 an adult must be present and not all of our products and treatments are suitable for this age group. With the exception of our Hair Design and Nail Paint services we do not offer treatments to children under the age of 10.

Due to the restrictions imposed by our insurance regarding health and safety we have to restrict access to certain areas of our salon to children and these are:

  • No children under 10 are not permitted in the main therapy room. Children aged 10-15 must be accompanied by an adult and if the child is having a treatment the adult must be present in the room throughout the treatment.
  • Children under 10 are not permitted in the Nail room unless having a nail paint service and accompanied by an adult. Children 10-15 must be accompanied as above. Babies secured in car seats will be permitted.
  • Children are welcome at all times for Hair Design services unless a chemical treatment such as colour or scalp dermabrasion is being carried out in which case children under the age of 6 will not be permitted unless they are infants secured in car seats. Children above this age will be permitted unless they begin to move around the salon and it is possible they may come into contact with chemical agents. If this is the case we may have to ask you to rebook your appointment at another time.

We hope that you understand our reasons for these measures but the safety of our clients and staff is our upmost priority and we hope that you will be able to book your appointments accordingly.

We offer free 15 minute consultation sessions which can be booked through our system. This session can be to discuss treatments or medical concerns or to give no obligation skincare advice which is useful to anyone who wants to know what kinds of products or treatments are best suited to their skin and are particularly useful for children or young people whose skin may be reacting to hormonal or other changes. We also offer regular skin analysis events every 3 months where your skin can be analysed in depth using state of the art imaging equipment to assess the deeper layers of your skin to show its true age and condition.

Please arrive in good time for your treatment. If you are late the treatment time may have to be shortened or cancelled and the full cost of the treatment will still be payable. If you cancel within 24 hours of your treatment 50% of the treatment cost may still be chargeable and if you miss your appointment or cancel with less than 1 hours notice the full treatment cost may still be charged and you may be asked to prepay for further treatments.

Payment for all treatments is due on conclusion by cash, gift voucher or card payment but we cannot accept cheques. All courses of treatments must be paid for in advance and for Collagen Stimulation Therapy a £50 deposit is payable on booking.

We welcome any feedback about our treatments, products and service. If you are unhappy with anything please bring it to our attention at the time or afterwards by phone or email to give us the opportunity to respond. If you like us please tell us (its always good to hear!) and find us on Facebook. We will be having special offers and promotions throughout the year that will be on our Facebook page and any new treatments will be posted there and on this site. If there are any treatments you would like us to offer or have any comments you would like to make please contact us.
